The Anti Snoring Mouthpiece – Is It The Greatest Snoring Aid
Mouthpieces that help to stop snoring are also called anti snoring dental devices, and they are intended to bring you snoring relief. You use these anti snoring mouthpieces to lull the vibrating of your throat tissues and breathe normally because they are able to keep your mouth in the right position. The anti snoring mouthpieces prevent the soft throat tissues from collapsing and obstructing the airway when you sleep. This the mouthpieces achieve by lifting the soft palate of your mouth and/or by bringing your lower jaw forward. Preventing your tongue from rolling back in your throat is how some others of these devices do it. Some people confuse the anti snoring mouthpiece with the snoring chin strap, another popular aid to stop snoring, but these are actually different devices. These anti snoring mouthpieces are very effective to people who suffer from mild or moderate obstructive sleep apnea. The ‘scientific’ principles upon which these mouthpieces are designed is that of mandibular advancement. The anti snoring mouthpieces are generally made up of plastic and can be easily worn in your mouth. There are custom made dental devices, and then there are the soft material types that will mould into any shape of mouth. Before you use a ‘boil and bite’ mouthpiece, you’d have to heat it up a bit - it acts like a sports gum shield.
The best part about anti snoring mouthpieces is perhaps that they don’t cost as much as other over the counter devices do A custom built one would of course cost you a bit more. The specialized mouth piece will be made based on a mould taken directly from the patient's mouth. These mouthpieces are significantly more expensive, up to $3000. There is bound to be a perfect fit for your mouth with this one, however.
Unfortunately anti snoring mouthpieces can take some getting used to. Excess salivating, tooth position shifting, and suchlike, are just a number of the many complications that could arise from using these anti snoring mouthpieces. You should not commence the use of such contraptions until your dentist okays it. You are not eligible for the anti snoring mouthpieces if you suffer from TMJ, or temporomandibular joint dysfunction; fewer teeth than are sufficient to support the device; or the kind of periodontal problems that could result in tooth mobility.
There aren’t that many other scientifically proven options left if the anti snoring mouthpiece isn’t able to stop your snoring. A better alternative to a mouthpiece might be an anti snoring chin strap. Or else, you could be looking to your physician for more aggressive stop snoring interventions. There are therapies that can try to solve the problem by tightening up throat and mouth muscles. If that doesn't work, your only other alternative is to revert to surgery.
